Carnival Update

Unfortunately, we don't have enough material to put on a proper carnival this time around. Probably a good thing since most people are thinking and blogging about Hurricane Katrina. Thanks to those of you who did submit your work and hopefully we'll still be able to get the Expat Bloggers Carnival up and running as we continue to get the word out! Thanks especially to Expat Yank for helping to promote the carnival.

Expat Bloggers Carnival

A carnival dedicated to showing off posts by expatriate bloggers and other bloggers who have a cross-cultural focus, including TCK's.

If you haven't already come across one, a "blog carnival" is simply a showcasing of posts from a certain community of bloggers. They can be held weekly or as often as one chooses and are usually hosted by different members of the community each week (but, not necessarily).

Carnivals range from the very broad (education, blogs from India), to the more specific (conservative politics), to the very specific (cats).

I created this sample "mini carnival" to show the diversity of posts that could be included in an expat bloggers carnival:

Expat Yank has some interesting ideas about the British media coverage of the shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes after the London terror attacks. Brian and Tonette talk about their new post in Islamabad, Pakistan, confirming that the first week of school is hectic no matter where you live. Stickyrice takes us on a culinary adventure into the northern highlands of Vietnam. Teddy de Burca Jnr of Pittstop Works has a hilarious post about a bad break up—between him and his xe om (motorbike taxi) driver— bringing humor to everyday life as an expat in Hanoi. Shauny struggles with an all too familiar decision these days of whether to by organic or save her money, while providing us with tidbits about the idiosyncrasies of Scottish locals.

Okay, so it’s no masterpiece of great writing, but it’s one way of putting together a blog carnival. I just pulled from my links, so it’s a little Vietnam-biased! Here are some other interesting carnivals:
